Adam Johnson ’06 is a sustainable furniture designer and founder of Withers and Grain (Formerly the Vintage Industrial), a New York based design group. Johnson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics and says the degree helps him with general concepts — like looking at time value, not just the cost of materials. He says the company gives him something tangible and enables him to see an idea come alive.

The furniture collection is designed and built locally in their studio in Brooklyn, New York. He and partner Luke Fasano use a large collection of high grade reclaimed woods from the 5 boroughs of New York. In addition to their wood studio, they handle all welding and metal fabrication in house. By keeping complete control of the materials and fabrication process allows them to maintain the highest quality control possible.
