There are a lot of ways to use iron plumbers pipe to make shelves. Here is the way that has worked well for me. Pipe shelving systems are not cheap but are a great investment because they can be disassembled and adapted to almost any setting. If you are renting your current home or move often they are an excellent alternative to moving giant bookcases. If you own your home it can be a nice full height bookcase for a study, provides shelving for dry goods in a kitchen, or even provides organization in a closet.

When I use pipes like this my hands get a bit grimy (maybe it's grease that's needed for plumbing?). Do you have any suggestions for cleaning or sealing the pipes so when people touch them they don't get greasy hands?

Ben, cool project. I've been wanting to incorporate pipes into some project and this one turned out really well!

  3. Could you use pvc pipe? I assume it would be the same concept.. Thinking of building an entertainment center! Thanks for some inspiration! 🙂

Love the project concept but can't afford nor justify the cost of steel pipe. how about 3/4" or 1" pvc?

I really like this project, been looking to do the same thing in my room.
I have a question, do the pipes have to be supported on the ground or can you anchor them at the bottom too the wall? And if this could be done, would that be a sturdy configuration ?

  9. Do you have an estimate on how much the materials were for this project?

  20. Hii!! How do you call the rounds on the wall??

  21. can you make one with a desk underneath, almost like a college dorm kind of thing.

Thanks for the quick tutorial. I wonder how sturdy it would be to flip it around and have the vertical bars close to the wall and the horizontal shelf supports be free floating looking. This is to avoid having the vertical bard block some of the shelf space.

Did you clean the pipes with anything? There is a black soot/paint that rubs off of the ones I bought and isn't really suitable to have in a kids room where they will be touching it. Is there a specific type of black iron pipe that are cleaner? I got mine from Lowes.

I love your videos. Easy to make, you don't have millions of sponsors where you have to use lots of their tools to make one project. Plus you provide projects that are very affordable to make. Easy and basic, love it. I was wondering if you have a video where you've made a hanging pot and pan rack? Can you sure link. I can't find a video where I like the design nor that it's easy to make a hanging pot and pan rack.
    Thanks

  25. Can I please have your website url? I'm having difficulty finding the site so that I can go in and get the exact dimensions and layout. Is it possible for you to send the direct link to the shelf layout?

  26. Great video and channel! I want to do this shelf but I'm nervous about using the floor flanges and putting so many large holes in the wall. My other concern is making it sturdy at the bottom without drilling into my tile… any advice? Thanks!!

  27. OMG I've been looking for weeks trying to find something that was easy yet durable for my living room!

Thank you so much for this!!!
